Runic inscription
On the front:
Stenfast let . . . . stone after Björn, his brother
: sta infas - r : Ii - . . . in :
at : b]iar[n] - u [u]r... i[n]
On the side:
. . . . after Björn and Arnfast(?)

Runecarver:
Ärnfast

The ornamentation on U 31 and
U 43 is almost identical. Both also have a signature page on
the side with a simple dragon tied with a shackle in the
shape of a ring.
We can probably find a
counterpart to the bird on U 31 on the Böksta Stone,
runestone U 855 in Balingsta, which is probably the work
of Ärnfast.

Today, what remains of the
runestone stands beautifully in a sheepfold, but it is no
problem to go in and take a closer look at the runestone.
Somewhere nearby are the missing parts that will sooner or
later appear.

In the fall of 2021, it was difficult to
see the painted chippings. The paint was almost completely
gone.
