Runic inscription:
(of which we only see the end)
- - father his. God help his spirit.
- - fathur sin +
Guþ
hialbi ant hans
The runestone is carved in red
sandstone and bears Torbjörn the poet's "handwriting" with
slanted runes (1). The tail end (2) is usually
rolled up, but Torbjörn likes to be careless about that.
The yellow body (digital color) of the
ornament (3) makes me wonder because it should be
braided "over, under" but here it goes "under, under".
Torbjörn knows how bodies are braided and doesn't make such
a mistake... so what do we see?
(4) This is not a part of the
yellow body that goes over the red and makes the braid
right, it is two main staves for the runes NT in the word
ANT (spirit).

In the corner inside the armory on the way
into the church, the runestone is built into the floor. Next
to it is the loose fragment of
U 28.
When Malin and I visited the runestone on September 22,
2021, a large iron candlestick stood directly on the
runestone U 24 without protection... not so good.. but the
churchwarden who opened for us promised to protect the
carving better in the future.
But what happens then?
This runestone and the fragment
U 28
need better protection.
Ekerö municipality needs a museum!
